[Golden Globes Winning Films] “Oppenheimer, Pure Things, The Holdover, and Barbie were among the films that won several awards at the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday night.
Hosted by comedian Joel Koy, the 81st Annual Awards ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. For those who missed the live show, it’s available for streaming on Paramount+.
Producers Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge acquired all the assets, rights, and properties of the Globes from HFPA in June 2023. Following this, the Globes underwent a significant overhaul, including a roster of voting members. DCPI is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge, which also owns The Hollywood Reporter.
Receiving eight nods, Oppenheimer secured the most awards of the night. It took home awards for Best Drama Motion Picture, Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actor in any Motion Picture (Robert Downey Jr.), Best Motion Picture Director (Christopher Nolan), and Best Original Motion Picture Score (Ludwig Goransson). Garib Things came in second place with four awards, ultimately winning Best Musical or Comedy Motion Picture and a Female Actor for Best Performance in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture (Emma Stone).
Barbie, with its nine nominations, led the 2024 Golden Globes-winning film contenders. It secured two trophies, including the Opening Cinematic Box Office Achievement Award. In the 13 categories, Netflix led all film distributors, featuring titles like Maestro, May December, Nyaad, Rastin, and Society of the Snow, along with blockbusters such as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and The Super Mario Brothers Movie.
Most of the winners and nominated individuals (if not all) are also available for online purchase or rental on platforms like Apple TV, Prime Video, and other video-on-demand services.
