This four-door Taycan is an electric vehicle (EV) that drives just like a Porsche. In terms of acceleration, it possesses Olympic strength, reaching 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, in addition to its communicative steering and locked-down handling.
Specifications of the Porsche Taycan Electric Vehicle
Each Taycan is a four-door sedan, although Porsche does make wagonized versions, known as the Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo, which we assess separately, if you need more capacity for cargo. The exterior and interior design of the Taycan conceal the typical EV nerdiness, while the large brakes and wheels add to the overall attractive appearance.
Considering that even the least efficient Lucid Air has an estimated range of 384 miles between charges, the EPA believes that the farthest-driving Taycan has a range of 246 miles. Up to 270 kWh of DC-fast charging may be achieved at lightning-fast speeds with the Taycan Turbo S, the most powerful model, which has 750 horsepower. With its quieter engine than its predecessors, the Taycan is an electric sports vehicle that is definitely deserving of the Porsche crest that so many iconic 911s have flown before it. As always, the Taycan is included in this year’s Editors’ Choice list. After four model years, the 2024 Porsche Taycan is back for a fifth.
Cost and Which to Purchase
Starting at $92,550 and going up to $196,550 depending on the trim and extras, the 2024 Porsche Taycan is priced. The 522-hp powertrain, 19-inch wheels, adaptive air suspension, partly leather upholstery, and keyless entry are all standard on the 4S.
We would upgrade to the Performance Battery Plus, which raises the pack’s size and boosts the combined horsepower rating to 562, but we would forego the majority of Porsche’s numerous personalisation options in order to keep costs under control.
A must-have is the Performance package, which also makes driving the Taycan more enjoyable. Active anti-roll bars help with cornering stability, rear-axle steering and torque vectoring enhance agility, and the Sport Plus drive mode maximises performance. It is also advisable to utilise the Porsche Experience Centre.
Electric vehicle motor performance, power
With one electric motor powering the front wheels and the other the back, Taycan versions typically have two electric motors. By trim level, they provide distinct outputs. If the battery is larger, the 4S can produce 562 horses, whereas the lesser battery can only produce 522 horsepower.
The top models—the 670-hp Turbo and the 750-hp Turbo S—come equipped with the large juicer by default. With solely rear-wheel drive, the base model’s horsepower ranges from 402 to 469, contingent on battery capacity. The Taycan GTS, which has 626 pound-feet of torque and 590 horsepower, is the sweet point.
The unique two-speed direct-drive gearbox used on all Taycan versions is essential to the vehicle’s quick acceleration. After test driving the Taycan 4S, we were pleased with how quickly it could reach 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and how nicely it handled in tight spaces. But given that Porsche decided on one-pedal driving, we wish the brake pedal was more sensitive.
The Turbo S’s rocket-ship takeoffs will astound anyone with a strong craving for speed. Our test prototype completed the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds at 130 mph and reached 60 mph in just 2.4 ticks. (A Tesla Model S Plaid demolished the Porsche in acceleration, but a Model S Performance in Cheetah mode matched that explosion to 60 mph.)
Among electric cars, the Taycan stands out for its fierce acceleration, low-slung driving posture, and precision steering. It’s also cosy. Another Taycan Turbo S we tested never felt harsh or stiff, even while riding on 21-inch wheels with low-profile tyres.
Battery Life, Charging Capacity, and Range
Compared to the Tesla Model S, which can travel up to 400 miles on a single charge, the Taycan’s driving range is not very impressive. Depending on the size of the battery and the electric motors, the Porsche has ratings ranging from 206 to 246 miles. In a practical comparison test, the Taycan did exceed its range estimations. The 800-volt architecture present in every Taycan model permits a maximum charging rate of 270 kilowatts.
The bigger battery can be charged from 5 to 80 percent in a claimed 23 minutes for models with the larger battery (Porsche lists this pack as 93.4 kWh, but only 83.7 kWh are usable). On the other hand, as we found in a comparison test, 800-volt DC fast chargers are uncommon and peak charging rates don’t provide much guidance. Per Porsche, 93 minutes are needed for charging at a 50-kW DC fast charger. 150 kW of charge is an option, although 270 kW and 50 kW of rapid charging are standard. Our 11-car, thousand-mile EV1000 rally gave us a firsthand look at the real-world charging variables.
Real-World MPGe & Fuel Efficiency
Up to 83 MPGe combined is the efficiency rating for the most efficient Taycan. In contrast, the Tesla Model S Long Range has a mileage rating of 120 miles per gallon. The Porsche is certified for up to 88 MPGe on the highway, while the Tesla is rated for up to 115 MPGe. We drove a 75 mph interstate route to test the Taycan 4S with the bigger battery, and we saw 65 mpg. With a 2018 Model S 100D, we ran the same test and recorded 91 MPGe. On the aforementioned highway test, we also witnessed a 2020 Taycan 4S reach 180 miles of real-world range. Visit the EPA’s website to learn more about the Taycan’s fuel efficiency.
Interior, Cozyness, and Packing
The interior of the stylish Taycan is filled with technology. The seemingly straightforward appearance is reminiscent of previous Porsche models. As could be imagined, a variety of luxurious materials and colour palettes are available to cover the inside.
The list of luxurious features is extensive and includes heated rear seats, a massaging front seat, a heated steering wheel, and four-zone climate control. Although 2+2 seating is typical on the Taycan, a third seat can be added in the back if needed.

We weren’t too like of having to squeeze into the low front seat, and we thought the electric Porsche’s rear seats and storage capacity were a little on the small side. However, there’s a great view out when you’re driving.
Connectivity and Entertainment
The Taycan has no shortage of screens within, but it does lack traditional buttons and knobs. The infotainment system is operated by two centrally situated touchscreens in addition to a curved 16.8-inch gauge display.
The top one is 10.9 inches in diameter and is integrated into the dash. It offers entry to crucial features. Users may interact with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, change the climate settings, check the battery life, input navigational data, and open and close the trunk and charge ports using the 8.4-inch touchscreen beneath it.
Features for safety and driver assistance
Standard driver-assistance features on every Taycan include automated emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Naturally, Porsche charges extra for its more sophisticated technology. Check out the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for more on the Taycan’s crash test results. The following are important safety features: • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology available
• Remote-controlled parking is accessible.
• Accessible night vision
Coverage for maintenance and warranties
Porsche offers an attractive warranty programme that is on line with that of other high-end EV brands. Nevertheless, Tesla provides unlimited mileage for the same duration of time, while Taycan’s electrical component coverage is restricted to eight years or 100,000 miles.
The four-year or 50,000-mile limited warranty is offered.
• Eight years or 100,000 miles are covered by the powertrain warranty.
• There is no free planned maintenance.
