The 2024 Jeep Wrangler is an SUV that will take you almost anyplace you want to go if you’re the type of person who likes to spend weekends in the great outdoors—or maybe you simply want to seem like you do. Jeep has evolved greatly from its military beginnings and now provides a plethora of creature comforts; in fact, some of the higher-end models may be considered opulent.
2024 Jeep Wrangler: Costs, Features, and Images
That being said, you shouldn’t count on the Wrangler giving you a plush ride or massaging your rear while you’re travelling to the trailhead. It nevertheless has truck-like characteristics and appropriate driving behaviour.
Its steering constantly needs to be corrected in order to keep it travelling straight, and its ride over uneven pavement can be shocking. The Toyota 4Runner and the Ford Bronco are regarded as more capable and sophisticated alternatives, respectively. In contrast to its competitors, Jeep provides a far wider range of powertrain choices, such as a plug-in hybrid model and a 470-hp V-8 reserved for the Rubicon 392 model.
Performance, Transmission, and Engine
Starting with a 285-hp 3.6-liter V-6 engine that can be mated to either a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox, the Wrangler is available with five other powertrain options. For more low-end power, an electric motor and optional turbocharged four-cylinder engine are offered; however, this powertrain is limited to use with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The Wrangler may be outfitted with a 6.4-liter V-8, a 375-hp plug-in hybrid 4xe engine, or a 3.6-liter V-6 with a comparable hybrid aid, in addition to the basic V-6 and optional four-cylinder hybrid.
Part-time four-wheel drive is standard on all Wrangler models and is operated via a lever located on the centre console because the vehicles are designed to be off-road capable from the factory. During our test drive, a base V-6 Wrangler Sport with a six-speed manual gearbox took 6.1 seconds to reach 60 mph; an upgraded four-door Sahara variant with an automated gearbox completed the same task in 6.8 seconds.
The four-door Sahara took 6.5 seconds less to reach 60 mph when equipped with the four-cylinder hybrid powerplant. In our tests, the Rubicon and High Tide models performed slower than the others despite carrying extra weight in the form of more powerful off-roading gear.
Batteries: Life, Charging, Range
Choosing a 4xe powertrain makes sense if you’re interested in exploring trails only with electric power. Jeep claims that the 17.0 kWh battery pack can drive an electric vehicle up to 25 miles, which is sufficient for several hours of leisurely off-roading at a low speed.
Fortunately, you won’t have to worry about becoming stranded without a charge because the turbocharged four-cylinder Wrangler can still drive all four wheels in the event of a battery drain.
Real-World MPG and Fuel Economy
To be at the top of the class in this category of gas-guzzlers, not much is required. The Wrangler outperforms competitors like the Bronco and 4Runner according to EPA fuel-economy calculations.
Three mpg less than its EPA-rated highway fuel economy, the four-door Wrangler Sahara with a V-6 engine only managed 20 mpg on our 75 mph highway fuel-efficiency route. Much better, and 2 mpg more than anticipated, was achieved by the four-cylinder hybrid variant with turbocharging.

Space, Cosiness, and Packing
Although the Wrangler offers a smooth blend of classic and contemporary Jeep character, it’s not the most roomy or accommodating SUV on the market. Though the view of the road—or trail—is commanding, large roof pillars, roll bars, and different grip handles block the view back. This makes manoeuvring the vehicle easier.
Need a clearer picture? Remove the doors by simply popping the top. The driver and front-seat passenger are seated close to the upright windscreen, facing a thin, squared-off dashboard lined with round air vents and chunky buttons for the infotainment, climate control and power windows, if fitted. Though its back seats don’t fold completely flat with the floor, the Wrangler is still a good option for doing errands because it has plenty capacity for food and gear.
Video and Internet Access
All Wrangler models include a full infotainment suite, even if you can live without standard creature amenities like power windows and air conditioning. Utilising a 12.3-inch touchscreen, its Uconnect 5 interface is user-friendly, responsive, and rapid. Both standard and wirelessly functional is Apple Car Play and Android Auto. An active noise-cancellation feature helps to quiet the cabin in case you need to answer a phone call while driving, and there is onboard GPS with over 2000 mapped trails.
Functions for Safety and Driver Aid
With prices that reach into the $40,000 and $80,000 area, Jeep is known for offering a small number of optional driver-assistance technologies but not much in the way of high-tech equipment. Go to the websites of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for additional details regarding the Wrangler’s crash test findings. Accessible blind-spot monitoring is one of the main safety elements. There are rear parking sensors and rear cross-traffic alerts available.
