The original manga Hanma Baki was written and illustrated by Keisuke Itagaki. It appeared in Weekly Shonen Champion from 1991 until 1999 and was collected into 42 volumes.

Three manga series that followed, Baki, Baki Hanma, and Baki-Dou, were published in the same magazine. The fifth and final series, Baki-Dou (spelled differently), debuted in October 2018 and has been revealed that it will have an anime adaptation.

The most recent revival debuted in 2018 with the 26-episode series Baki, which was produced by Double Eagle and TMS Entertainment. Baki: In the spring of 2020, the Great Raitai Tournament Saga began. The third chapter of the reboot, Baki Hanma (also titled Baki: Son of Ogre), began immediately after the first season.

Yasuharu Takanashi wrote the music, and Makoto Uezu was in charge of the series composition. The first installment of the second season debuted in September 2023, and the second installment is scheduled to debut in August of current year.
