Honda WR-V : features and specifications

After its debut in 2017 and a small redesign in 2020, the Honda WR-V was eventually phased out in the first quarter of 2023.

Honda WR-V : features and specifications

While it is more spacious, stylish, and feature-rich, it is derived from the Jazz hatchback. The WR-V 2020 faced competition in the Indian market from premium hatchbacks, subcompact sedans, and subcompact SUVs thanks to its BS6-compliant petrol and diesel engines, revised front end, and streamlined model range.

Style and Design:

The WR-V has a bolder, more streamlined look than its predecessor. The front grille was larger and had lost its honeycomb pattern in favour of horizontal slats.

The old headlamps have been replaced with LED projectors with LED DRLs and beautiful details. Fog lamps with strong black borders that run on LEDs add even more style. Although the side profile is almost the same, the addition of new 16-inch alloy wheels gives it a more modern appearance. Redesigned LED tail lamps with a smoked finish and blacked-out frames adorned the back end. Radiant Red, Lunar Silver, Modern Steel, Golden Brown, Platinum White, and Premium Amber were the six colours that were offered for the WR-V.

Inside and Aspects:

Silver highlights, an all-black dashboard, and premium plastics were standard on the WR-V’s interior. The seat upholstery, which has a sporty mesh design, was the only change made to the 2020 model.

Inside and Aspects:

Legroom, headroom, and cargo capacity were all plenty in the roomy and practical cabin of the WR-V. A notable element that enhances the car’s appeal is the motorised sunroof.

Though there is potential for improvement in terms of touch response and clarity, the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, known as Digipad 2.0, enables built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Cruise control, telescopic steering tilt and adjustment, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, a driver seat height adjuster, and a front armrest with plenty of storage were among the standard equipment.

Safety features included in every version of the WR-V 2020 included dual airbags, ABS with EBD, a rear parking camera, impact-mitigating front headrests, and technologies to reduce the risk of pedestrian injuries. But it lacks some features that rival models have, such tyre pressure monitoring, traction control, hill start aid, side and curtain airbags and electronic stability control.

The engine and performance:

The WR-V 2020 was equipped with two BS6-compliant engines under its hood: a 1.5-liter diesel engine that produced a more powerful 99 bhp and 200 Nm of torque, and a 1.2-liter petrol engine that produced 89 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque.

The engine and performance:

A five-speed manual gearbox was mated to both engines, with the petrol engine providing the convenience of a continuously variable gearbox (CVT).

Although the petrol engine ran well, it lacked the power and thrill of some of its rivals. In contrast, the diesel engine had greater power but showed some turbo lag at lower speeds. For the petrol engine, the stated fuel efficiency was 16.5 km/l, and for the diesel engine, it was 23.7 km/l.

The ride and handling:

Because of its carefully calibrated suspension, which skillfully absorbs road irregularities, the WR-V 2020 offered a smooth and serene ride. It was able to negotiate difficult roads without damaging the underbody because to its large 188 mm ground clearance. Although it delivers little sensation at high speeds, the steering is easy to use in city traffic.

Cost:

The 2020 WR-V was priced between Rs. 9.11 lakh and Rs. 12.31 lakh (ex-showroom).

The ride and handling:

As a result, it was priced higher than the majority of its rivals in the high-end hatchback and subcompact sedan markets, which included the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, Honda Amaze, and Hyundai Aura. It was also reasonably priced in comparison to several subcompact SUVs, like the Hyundai Venue and Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
In competition:

In the Indian market, the WR-V 2020 faced fierce competition in a number of different areas. Its rivals in the premium hatchback segment included the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, and Toyota Glanza, all of which are more affordable, have better performance, and have more features than the WR-V 2020.

In addition, it faced competition from subcompact sedans with greater comfort, convenience, and trunk room, such as the Ford Aspire, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, and Hyundai Aura. Last but not least, it rivals the WR-V 2020 in terms of ground clearance, road presence, and safety features with subcompact SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, and Tata Nexon.
