American Airlines is considering ordering narrow-body and widebody aircraft.

New aircraft are being ordered by American Airlines. As I and others have noted, it might not be limited to narrowbody aircraft only.
A widebody order has also been discussed, possibly even for the Airbus A350 to replace the ageing Boeing 777-200s. As aviation monitor JonNYC points out, the airline’s upcoming Investor Day is on March 4; that’s when an announcement, at least regarding new smaller planes, might be made.

Looking towards Airbus A350s, American Airlines is anticipated to reveal a revolutionary aircraft order on March 4.

I’ve been anticipating a new aeroplane purchase. The news that America is thinking of ordering narrowbody cars actually came from me first.

Looking towards Airbus A350s, American Airlines is anticipated to reveal a revolutionary aircraft order on March 4.
We will require aircraft, and I wouldn’t be shocked if we committed to some narrowbody aircraft as we get past 2027, CEO Robert Isom said to staff members in July.
A widebody aircraft order is not what I had anticipated. Multiple Boeing 787-9s that they already have on order will not be delivered as soon as planned.

A better bargain on MAX aircraft from Boeing to replace older Airbus A319, A320, and some 737-800 aircraft is something I expect to happen, even if American Airlines CEO Robert Isom has been dissatisfied with Boeing like everyone else. For an airline of Airbus’s size, American has indicated that airframe makers will work it out, although delivery slots would be more difficult to come by.

The airline has attempted to lessen the diversity of their operation during the previous seven years, so adding the A350 to the fleet would be a radical reversal of that approach in terms of widebodies.

During the epidemic, American Airlines retired far too many aircraft. The carrier’s Boeing 767s were in demand, at the very least, as freight aircraft. A few 757s was what Northern Pacific desired. Even the leases on the Airbus A330s were still being paid. They missed out on the tourism boom to Europe last year, which drove revenues at United and Delta, since they had so many planes off the table.

Notwithstanding, they contended that by streamlining its widebody fleet to include only Boeing and 787/777 models, they effectively positioned themselves for the future.

Add the complexity of this new aircraft type to the airline’s growing widebody fleet, and it would be surreal for the carrier—which shelved its order for the A350 it inherited from US Airways in the spring of 2018. The A350 simulator that American had has now been sold. Oh, I see.

To replace its Boeing 777-300ERs, the airline has also discussed phasing out the 787-10. The A350, however, would probably be bringing American Airlines to places it has been reluctant to go, doesn’t believe would be viable for them, and would probably necessitate a change in route planning.
